Dear friends,
Our district has a surplus of 100 bicycles available to needy women at Rs.1000.00 each (regular cost Rs.2800.00 each). This is a part of the matching grant project (Project Streevahini) done during the year 2007-08 under the governorship of Rtn. Rajendra Rai.
Our Rtn. C.N. Kumar has come forward to donate Rs.10,000.00 towards ten bicycles on behalf of Rotary Bangalore Southwest. I commend this fine gesture.
I am reproducing the mail received from the district in this regard for your perusal.
We need to identify ten needy women who can benefit from this benevolence. I request you to recommend the names of suitable beneficiaries to me or Rtn. Vijay Tadimalla before 1st September, 2008.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
Dear Rotary Presidents and Community Service Directors,
THERE IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE UP THIS LOW BUDGET PROJECT THIS YEAR ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS.
UNDER THE WOMEN EMPOWERMENT SCHEME IN THE LAST ROTARY YEAR, DG RAI AND CHAIRMAN LATE MAHALINGA BHAT SUCCESSFULLY ARRANGED TO DISTRIBUTE HUNDREDS OF WELL EQUIPED BICYCLES TO THE POOR & NEEDY WOMEN FOLK . THIS WOULD ENABLE THEM TO INDEPENDENTLY PURSUE SOME PETTY TRADES AND EARN THEIR LIVING WITH DIGNITY. FOR OTHERS , IT WOULD BE HANDY TO REACH TO THEIR WORKPLACE S IN TIME.
UNDER THE ABOVE SCHEME, WE ARE LEFT WITH ABOUT 100 BICYCLES MORE.
COST OF THE BICYCLE WITH CARRIER AND EXTRA ATTACHMENT IS RS. 2800/=
CLUBS HAVE TO PAY ONLY RS. 1000.
PROCEEDINGS WILL GO TO ROTARY FOUNDATION KITTY OF THIS ROTARY YEAR.
